- Start from what they know and build a common understanding
- Feed the need for an intellectual definition of coaching, then shift to the experience of coaching.
- Make the distinction that coaching is partnering with an individual/team to support them in maximizing their talents and abilities; to help them capitalize on their strengths; to tap into their own brilliance so that they can more effectively do their job and work at and leverage their fullest potential.
What is being “Coach-like”?
- Being coach-like means having a mindset that allows us to be open to the process.
- It involves being very conscious and aware of how we are showing up.
- The coach becomes more and more conscious of what they are thinking and feeling, as well as how they are responding to others in their conversations.
- Ideally, the coach’s goal is to move from “doing coaching” to “being a coach”.
