Getting rid of, or greatly reducing the things you are putting up with is one of the best ways to begin to recoup your energy and ultimately gain enough back to “fill your cup”. Some of the things you are putting up with might seem insurmountable. What then? The things that seem insurmountable may feel as big and overwhelming as having to eat a whole elephant. If you stood in front of that big, old elephant you wouldn’t know where to bite first! In that case, you would need to make elephant steaks. In other words, you would have to dissect the actions you need to take to get rid of the “insurmountable” toleration by breaking it into bite size or doable chunks and handling each of them one at a time. Be on the lookout for things you may be putting up with that are pivotal. By that we mean the one thing that, if eliminated, would eliminate a whole string of smaller things that you are putting up with. For example, let’s say one of the pivotal things you are putting up with is a very limited budget. If you had a bigger budget, you could handle a laundry list of shortages, undone and incomplete things and lack of resources to free you up. Eliminating something that is pivotal may not be as easy as some of the smaller things, but the pivotal things are what eat up most of our energy and keep us struggling. If you work your way up to the pivotal things by eliminating some of the smaller things that are not related to them, you can gradually free up enough energy, clarity, and creativity to deal with them in a way that is doable. Take a few minutes to take inventory of the things you’re putting up with on the following pages. This may seem a bit overwhelming at first, but it can also be very liberating because so often these things play in the background, and we aren’t even aware of what they are costing us until we see them written down.
