113 BREAKING FREE FROM OUR ATTACHMENTS The things we are tied to in such a way that it interferes with our freedom to make decisions, choices, or changes that would support us in moving to our fullest potential. We all have people, beliefs, places, and things we are quite fond of and would dread the thought of losing. The way we are connected to those things, and our ability to allow change into our relationship with them, is what we will be looking at. When we refer to attachments, we are referring to such a strong bond that we are unable and unwilling to put anything on the line for the sake of change. Change that will bring us closer to our fullest potential. We often won’t even consider possibilities or look at new perspectives when we are attached to something. We tend to become very stubborn and refuse to go there. This tends to immobilize us and keeps us from seeing any sort of potential for ourselves. It can also keep us in a loop of fooling ourselves that some miracle is going to show up and we won’t have to take any sort of a risk at all. We become stagnate when all the while our hearts and souls are calling out to us for change and movement. We put on the brakes and resist even the possibility of jeopardizing anything with our attachments. We can get very attached to non-tangible things like ideas and beliefs. Many of us hold on hard to what we have always known whether there is truth in it or not. There is a certain comfort to keeping what we have always had. This can keep us very attached to ideas and beliefs that no longer serve us and separate us from what our hearts are calling us to do. Again, we become very stubborn and dig our heels in, refusing to give up this belief or notion we have. We are going to look at a few different types of attachments. If you come upon a feeling of resistance during any of the exercises take the time to stop and examine that resistance since it is often our best indicator of what we are attached to.
