127 ALIGN WITH YOUR HIGHEST POTENTIAL To be your true and best self you must go to the farthest reaching thought of yourself in any given situation and picture the person you would have to be if you lived that thought every day. Envision what you would think, do and say differently and how you would respond to what others do and say. Throughout this process we have been referring to becoming your very best self and playing your biggest game. Now we will look at how you go about making choices that will lead you to being just that. It is important to point out that this is an ever-changing process. How we see ourselves and how we experience the world is continuously changing because our circumstances always change and in turn, change us. In addition, as you evolve, you will continue to raise the bar on your farthest reaching thoughts and visions of yourself. Many of us have been taught to focus on and give our highest attention to what we DO in life. We are taught that if we DO certain things like work hard, pay more attention, toughen up, think harder, push ahead, then we will HAVE certain things like more money, better job, greater freedom, more authority. Once we have these things, we then feel we can afford to BE inspirational, BE hopeful, BE free, BE fulfilled. We call this the DO/HAVE/BE model of thinking. This model can keep us running in the gerbil wheel much longer or possibly forever before we ever realize the person we want to BE. We put forth the tremendous effort and frantic behavior just like the gerbil but get no closer to our destination.
