Definition of Passion: “a compelling enthusiasm or desire for something”
Passion is a big deal in coaching. Why? Because Coaching is a different kind of conversation designed to tap into one’s thoughts, ideas, concerns, enthusiasms, desires and challenges. Done right it harnesses the compelling enthusiasm or desire for something (passion) and supports it in becoming a reality.
Many people who add coaching skills to their toolkit, do so because they are passionate about making a difference in the lives of others.
Tips and Tools:
Realize exhaustion, disillusionment, delays, risk, sacrifice and lack of stability are part of the package when following one’s passion – this is where regularly scheduled coaching appointments come in.
Create a structure of accountability to move through those times with key commitments by specific dates – this is part of what makes a coaching conversation different , i.e. What are you committing to as a result of today’s conversation and by when. Let’s also confirm our next appointment.
As a coach, how do you support others in the journey of following their passion? The most important thing to do is to make sure that you are prepared for it. You need to make sure that you are both getting the support that you need and are up to the task of coaching others in either discovering, or in following, their passion. It is the coach’s ability, and responsibility, to stand with others, be the light in the storm as they move, step by step, in finding their way to their passion.
We, at Coaching Out of the Box®, want to make sure you are prepared to assist others, or pursue your own journey in passion, by offering some tools that can help.
