Course Materials

Welcome to The Business Builder Program – For Coaches. There are six modules in this online course. Each module contains essential content to help you identify and address the key elements of launching a small business.

The Business Builder Program – For Coaches includes a comprehensive workbook to download and complete. The exercises within the workbook are designed to help you explore areas that you might not have considered necessary and methods to ensure your business is launched in a sustainable and efficient way.

This course is offered as a stand-alone program. If you attend all six weeks of the course, you will receive a certificate of completion that you may be able to use for applicable continuing education credits. (Please check with your industry association to verify CE credits).

Below is a rundown of The Business Builder Program – For Coaches and what you can expect each week.

Please allow for 1 to 2 hours for your weekly fieldwork. Your weekly time commitment to this program is approximately 3.5 hours.

Curriculum Overview

Schedule Module Description
Module 1 PURPOSE In this Module we offer a course introduction along with an exploration of the current state of the coaching industry, the phases of business growth and the importance of establishing a purpose and core values when starting a business.
Module 2 PSYCHOLOGY Deep dive into mindset, limiting beliefs about business, money, and success. We address ways to manage your time and establish sustainable habits that will help you successfully navigate common business start-up obstacles.
Module 3 PREPARATION Understanding the importance of conducting a competitive analysis through market research to unlock your competitive advantage.
Module 4 PRODUCT Identify your unique service offering, niching, and identifying your ideal client avatar. This module’s focus includes an exploration of the structure of your coaching services and the coaching methodologies and techniques.
Module 5 PROCESS Examine the process of running a functioning business, which includes systems and processes. You learn about registering a business, the payment process, and securing your business “entourage”. Also covered this week is the client onboarding process.
Module 6 PRESENCE Explore why professional branding matters and how to write a professional coach bio. You learn about the concept of marketing and how to attract your target client and establish trust through key touchpoints. Additionally, and at a high level, we address website platforms and three pillars of social media.

  3. The course workbook has been designed with fillable interactive elements for you to get the most out of your learning experience. Please use the link below to download it.
  4. Complete the Pre-work.
  5. Be prepared for every zoom class.
  6. Attend the Zoom class each week at the designated time. 
  7. See ALL CLASSES folder for your ZOOM LINK each week.
  8. Complete the fieldwork found in the FIELDWORK folder.
  9. IMPORTANT: Once you have completed a Class or Fieldwork topic MARK AS COMPLETE. All lessons and sections need to be completed to be awarded a Completion Certificate.
  10. Use the navigation summary box at the top left to locate each week’s material.

Missed Class Policy

(This section does not apply if you do not need a completion certificate or Continuing Education Credits)

To successfully gain a course complete certificate and/or Continuing Education Credits this course, we require full attendance.

In the event you missed this last class, we offer you one option to listen to the recording, complete and submit a Recorded Class Report prior to the next scheduled class. You will be automatically sent this form in the event you miss a class.

If you miss more than 2 classes: We will require you to re-take those specific classes missed during the next available program. A $100.00 Class Re-take Fee may apply.

Susan Merli, PCC, MACP, RP (Q), CEBS

With a 24-year career in financial services, Susan leverages her experience in Human Resources, Talent Management, Marketing, Learning and Development, Small to Mid-Market Entrepreneurship, Productivity, Mindfulness, and Disability Management to enhance this program.

Susan helps leaders and entrepreneurs break through limiting beliefs and build successful careers. With over 2000 hours of direct client coaching experience, Susan has helped hundreds of clients find their way forward to actioning transformative outcomes.

With a decade of experience running her own private practice – Authentika Consulting Inc. – as a professional certified coach and leadership trainer in Waterloo, Ontario, she knows what it takes to create a thriving business. She understands that strategy, focus, and self-awareness are fueled by a growth mindset.

When not helping clients launch their small business, she works with leaders in the public and private sectors to identify goals and harness methods for attaining their personal and professional potential.

She is an alumnus of Wilfrid Laurier University and holds a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology degree graduate. Susan is a Registered Psychotherapist (Q) in the province of Ontario.

Additionally, Susan is a member in good standing with the International Coach Federation and holds certifications as a professional certified coach (PCC) and as a Vedic Educator, certified to teach Ayurveda, Meditation, and Yoga from the Chopra Center for Well-Being in California. She is an internationally accredited advanced assessment practitioner and evidence-based coach. She also holds the Certified Employee Benefits Specialist Designation. Additionally, she is a Certified Diversity Coach, a mentor coach and coach faculty for the International Coaching Group, a Certified Virtual Presenter and a former TV Talk Show and Radio Show host.
