ICF Ethics Standards Explained
In addition to the handout we provide on the ICF Code of Ethics, the true source is found on the ICF Website.
I will direct you to a section on that site called “Insights and Considerations for Ethics (ICE)”
This Insights and Considerations for Ethics (ICE) document has been developed as a resource to support members of the coaching profession with their assessment of and decision-making in matters of professional ethics.
The purpose of these ICE statements is to provide ICF Professionals with support around the learning and understanding of each standard in the ICF Code of Ethics, and to promote enhanced ethical awareness and discernment/critical thinking.
Now let’s connect our topic of conflict of interest to the ICE document. Read with keen interest STANDARD 6. Feel free to check out the other ICE standards.
(External website may change, if the link is not working, please tell us and head over the the ICF website to search for ICE)
The situation described may or may not be the same role you have as a coach.
Make the connection. In what way does that standard apply to your coaching practice?
Remind your future self of how it does apply to you in the note below.

ACC Credential Practice Exam by ICG
Locate the link at the bottom of the blue navigation bar to the left. Take the Practice Exam we have created to help your learning. We suggest you also re-take it just before you the real ICF exam.
Like the real ICF exam, you will be asked knowledge-based questions. Like the ICF Exam this is timed. The real ICF exam is administered in a secure environment with NO ability to have any resources or open books with you. You decide if that is how you would like to try taking this practice exam as well.
The exam tests coaches on their understanding of the body of knowledge that includes:
- The ICF definition of coaching
- ICF Core Competencies
- ICF Code of Ethics
- General coaching body of knowledge
This is a practice for the ACC Credential Exam.
It consists of 30 multiple choice questions.
A pass is 80% correct answers.
YOU WILL HAVE 45 MINUTES TO COMPLETE
You may take as often as you wish.
