How do I make a recording in a virtual environment?
We strongly recommend using ZOOM for an online interactive recording. Its free, records clearly and will give you both a video and audio version for your records. TEAMS, Blue Jeans and other fee-based Apps will work, AND you will need to know how to strip the audio portion of the video for your recording. Zoom will do this for you.
Making a ZOOM Recording
We suspect you know about ZOOM, because you took courses using it. For clarity, I will cover steps you may already have done and may already know how to do.
- In order to record your zoom session, you will need a minimum of the free “Basic” service. Sign up for one now at https://www.zoom.us/
- The following instructions assume you have downloaded the ZOOM app to your desktop. AND it assumes that ZOOM has not changed how their website looks like since we wrote this page. If they have, please let us know.
- Log into your zoom account. Use the Sign in action button.
- If you are familiar with ZOOM, them you can schedule a meeting with your client ahead of time. Or if you want to test this process just simply click on the orange “New Meeting”.
- Log into your basic service and start a new meeting.
- Note the bottom of your screen. Look for the Record button.
- Once selected your recording starts.
- Ending the meeting starts the recording to be saved on your Desktop.
- Notice the Convert Meeting Recording pop-up.
- Depending on the location you selected to store the file, it will look something like this.

- The audio######.m4a is the file you use for your recording. The video file is always fun and embarrassing to watch. Do not submit that file.
