Module 1 Opening Copy

5.5.5 Topics
5.5.5 Key Learning Points
Module 1 Opening
  • Welcome & Introductions
  • 5.5.5 Coaching Model(s)

Covered in this module:

  1. Course set-up
  2. What Coaching is
  3. The Process for Coaching

Points to consider:

  • Set the tone for your role. Coach from the front of the room, often referred to as “ground rules and expectations”. It is important to highlight your expectations for the participants as well as what they can expect from you.
  • In coaching, the participant does the work. In training the trainer does the work. Who are you being?
  • Their participation here starts to open the trust with themselves and others to reach a point of vulnerability needed to learn and be coached.
  • Spend some time learning about who is in the room. The value of knowing even a little bit about the participants is so important.
  • Highlight the value of learning from each other. This is a safe place for us to learn as a community, including the trainer.

Note from our CEO. “It is critical that our Trainers speak to the needs, challenges and issues of the attendees and model being coach-like as much as possible.  The more they are willing to take risks and demonstrate coaching right in the moment the better!   Of course, they need to ensure the entire model is covered but they also have to be willing to dance!” Alison Hendren, MCC
