Why coach training is priced the way it is

Coach training isn't like buying an online course you watch alone. A quality program is live, faculty-led, and deeply experiential, you spend months coaching real people, being coached, and receiving direct feedback from credentialed instructors. You're paying for expert time, small-group attention, mentor coaching, and a rigorous evaluation of your actual skill. That's what makes the difference between a certificate that impresses no one and a credential that opens doors.

This is why price alone is a poor way to choose a program. A cheap program that leaves you unprepared for the ICF exam costs you far more in the long run, in retakes, lost time, and lost confidence, than one priced fairly for the depth it delivers. The real question isn't "what's the cheapest?" It's "what gives me the best return on my investment?"

What a quality program should include

Before comparing prices, know what a complete, ICF-accredited program includes, because a low price often means something below is missing:

• The required coach-specific education hours (60+ for ACC, 125+ for PCC)
• Live, interactive instruction from credentialed faculty (ideally PCC or MCC level)
• Mentor coaching (the ICF requires 10 hours)
• A performance evaluation of your coaching
• Preparation and support for the ICF Credentialing Exam and application

If a program's price looks unusually low, check whether it quietly leaves out mentor coaching, the performance evaluation, or exam support, extras you'd then have to source and pay for separately, often at a higher total cost.

In the spirit of the transparency we'd want from any program, here is exactly what ours cost. We've built our pricing to sit at the accessible end of the quality range, not because we cut corners, but because our mission is to make excellent coach training reachable for as many people as possible.

The costs most programs don't mention: ICF fees

Here's what almost no program tells you up front: your tuition is not the only cost of becoming credentialed. The ICF charges its own fees, separate from any training program, and budgeting for them prevents surprises later.

• ICF Credentialing application fee: for ACC applicants from a Level 1 program, this is roughly $175 for ICF members and $325 for non-members. The written credentialing exam is included in this fee. (Fees are set by the ICF and subject to change.)
• ICF membership (optional but recommended): around $245 per year. Membership lowers your application fee and provides professional resources, so many coaches join before applying.
• Credential renewal: ICF credentials are valid for three years. Renewing requires 40 hours of Continuing Coach Education (CCE) plus a renewal fee, an ongoing cost worth planning for as part of a professional coaching career.

None of these are large next to your tuition, but they're real, and a program that hides them isn't giving you the full picture. Factoring them in, the true cost of reaching your ACC credential is your tuition plus a few hundred dollars in ICF fees.

Uncredentialed coaches compete on price and trust; credentialed coaches compete on credibility.
