ICF Credentialing Practice Exam by ICG

PRACTICE EXAM FOR PCC/MCC APPLICANTS.

ICG has created this practice exam to support your learning. Student-coaches who apply to the ICF for the PCC or MCC Credential will take ICF CREDENTIALING EXAM that is administered by the ICF as part of their PCC/MCC application process. We have created this exam to model as much of the real exam look and feel with knowledge-based questions and a TIME LIMIT to complete. (The pressure part).

The real ICF exam is NOT open book and you are NOT ALLOWED to have any reference materials with you as you write it.  With our practice exam, you are on the honor system. If using reference materials helps you learn, then do so. OR Use this time as a real practice to test your true knowledge.

This practice exam has 40 scenarios to be answered in less than 90 minutes.

You may take this practice exam as many times as you wish. For the sake of practice, your score is not part of your student pass requirement.

IMPORTANT DISTINCTION: For learning simplicity and to train you on what to look for, our scenario descriptions are succinct and void of context. The real ICF exam is just the opposite.

Practice Exam Question

In recent sessions, your client is often self-critical about their leadership presence. During the last session you notice how confident the client is now.  What should the coach do?

ICF Credentialing Exam

The ICF Credentialing Exam is a computer-based written exam based on the ICF Core Competencies. All candidates for the Professional Certified Coach (PCC) or Master Certified Coach (MCC) credential are required to pass the ICF Credentialing Exam.

The ICF Credentialing Exam is a tool designed to measure a coach’s knowledge of and ability to apply the ICF definition of coaching, the updated ICF Core Competencies, and the ICF Code of Ethics against a predetermined standard. The exam is informed by coach practitioners from around the world who served as subject matter expert volunteers in its development and in the establishment of the exam scoring standard.

The ICF Credentialing Exam consists of 78 situational judgment items. Each exam item contains a realistic scenario describing a coaching situation, followed by four response options. For each scenario, candidates are asked to select the best action and the worst action among the options provided for that scenario.

Learn More

There is only one correct best action and one correct worst action for each coaching scenario. Although more than one response may represent a reasonable response to the scenario presented, candidates will receive credit only for selecting the best possible action or the worst possible action.

Candidate performance on the ICF Credentialing Exam is measured against a pre-determined passing standard. The passing score is developed using the rigorous Angoff methodology, a best practice for certification testing programs, which includes experienced coach practitioners serving as subject matter experts.

The range of possible scores is 200 to 600, with a passing score of 460.

The ICF Credentialing Exam is offered in English with language aids in other languages.

ICF Credentials and Standards has partnered with Pearson VUE to deliver the ICF Credentialing Exam. Through its global network of testing centers and OnVUE (Pearson’s online service), candidates may either complete the exam at an on-site Pearson VUE testing center or at home online while being monitored by a remote proctor.

ICF is pleased to offer an ICF Credentialing Exam online tutorial. The tutorial is an interactive simulation of the Pearson VUE testing platform. Use this tutorial to become familiar with the exam platform features, practice the exam navigation functionality, and review and answer sample ICF Credentialing Exam questions in the testing platform environment at your own pace. This online tutorial is available at no cost.
